Children's program
This is a program in which we aim to nurture children from ages 2 -14 years to be responsible community members. They are coached on various basic life skills including:
- good behavior
- personal hygiene
- discovery and nurture talents
- basic farming skills
- basic computer skills
- taking care of the environment.
We also encourage them to interact together during group activities in order to learn new ideas and how to interact with others. The group activities include:
- meals – we provide one meal and one drink once a week during the school sessions and three times a week during holidays.
- painting – we provide the books, colors, crayon etc.
- field trips and excursions – we arrange visits to various sites and places for the sightseeing and exposure in order to appreciate nature.
- exchange forum – with children from other countries e.g. Japanese EKS program
interact with me
The “Interact with Me” program is an innovative initiative that supports teens and young adults by providing advocacy and guidance on crucial topics such as sexual reproductive health, career and talent development, crime, and drug abuse. The program recognizes that these issues can significantly impact the lives of young people and their futures, and seeks to provide a safe and supportive space where they can learn, grow and thrive. By empowering young people with knowledge, skills, and resources, the program equips them to make informed decisions about their lives and futures. The program’s comprehensive approach to advocacy on these topics is vital in addressing the complex challenges faced by teens and young adults. By investing in the “Interact with Me” program, society can empower the next generation to realize their full potential and contribute positively to their communities.
sanitary towels Distribution Program
The sanitary distribution program focuses on menstrual hygiene that is crucial for the wellbeing of teen girls. Providing access to affordable and sustainable menstrual products is essential for ensuring girls can manage their periods with dignity. The program should prioritize the promotion of recyclable sanitary towels, which are eco-friendly and cost-effective. By championing for reusable pads, the program will not only ensure girls have access to affordable menstrual products, but also create awareness on the benefits of adopting sustainable practices. The program should also provide education on menstrual hygiene management and break down the stigma surrounding menstruation. By empowering girls with knowledge and access to menstrual products, the program will enable them to stay in school, pursue their dreams, and live healthy and productive lives. We receive donations from well wishers every month and we also have a partnership with the Danish organization Moja – Stitch for education who donate re-usable sanitary towels and menstrual cups for our girls.
somo initiative
Somo is a Swahili word that means ‘study’. The program aimed at providing education empowerment to underprivileged children from 4-19 years old through scholarship opportunities, school uniforms, and stationery. It sought to remove the financial burden that prevented children from accessing quality education. By providing scholarships, students could attend school without worrying about tuition fees, thus enabling them to concentrate on their studies and attain their full potential. The program also provided school uniforms to ensure that every child had the same educational experience as their more affluent counterparts, creating a sense of unity and belonging. Moreover, it offered stationery items to students who could not afford them, ensuring that they had the necessary tools to learn and excel in their studies. The program aimed to empower children to take control of their lives and reach their goals by making education accessible to all. It provided an opportunity for underprivileged children to break the cycle of poverty and attain a brighter future through education, which is a fundamental right for every child.
nishike mkono
Nishike Mkoni is a Swahili word meaning ‘Hold My Hand’. Empowering young adults with practical skills is essential in preparing them for the workforce and enhancing their overall wellbeing. Programs that offer skill development opportunities such as fashion design, bakery, computer classes, and beauty and hairdressing classes, are invaluable in equipping young adults with marketable skills. The fashion design and bakery classes, for instance, can provide opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-employment. The computer classes, on the other hand, can equip participants with essential digital literacy skills, making them better prepared for the modern workforce. The beauty and hairdressing classes can also offer opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-employment, while also promoting self-care and confidence. Overall, skill empowerment programs provide young adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in the ever-changing job market. By investing in such programs, society can empower young adults and help them realize their full potential.
Food Program
This program is critical in ensuring that vulnerable children have access to nutritious meals, which not only addresses immediate hunger but also promotes their overall health and well-being. By providing regular meals, the program helps these children stay focused in school and pursue their dreams. Additionally, it provides a safe and supportive space for the children to interact and connect with one another, promoting social skills and community building. We are working together with BE THE NEED to make sure that every child in the community have the opportunity to get al least one nutritious meal a week. They come to the organization, get food and a full program is planned for them. They eat, play, and get the attention they deserve. This feeding program is an excellent example of how organizations can address a need and make a significant impact in the lives of children.
Annual Events
Each year we organize events which include;
- Teens festival (every April to 1st May) – This is a one week event in which we run an advocacy campaign on HIV/AIDS, behavioral change, drugs, abuse and other issues affecting the youth. It culminates to the final event, a musical concert, where a mentor and local prominent personality passes the advocacy message. Other activities on this day include free HIV/AIDS testing and counselling, skating and dancing.
- Mr and Miss Soweto (every August) -This is an event where teenagers and young adults showcase their talents to the community. This is aimed to develop their talents and grow their self-confidence.
- Kids festival (every December) – This is a one day fun filled event meant for the kids to celebrate the Christmas festival together. There are fun activities which include bouncing castles, horse and camel riding, face painting, skating, water sliding, etc. In addition, we also award kids for various achievements, including outstanding school performance, behaviour improvement and talent/sports etc.
