Partnership Programs

Food program

The food program provides lunch for around 500 children each Saturday and Sunday in Soweto Slum. Residents in the slum suffer and parents can’t afford to pay for a full meal. Some days the children will only get food once a day, and often only a small portion, because the money is low. We work together with Be the Need organization to make sure that every child in the community has the opportunity to get at least one nutritious meal a week. Be the Need is a faith-based, nonprofit organization based in the U.S.A, and it's a lifeline of help and hope to those living in extreme poverty. Go to Be the Need's website www.betheneed.org to read more about this organization.

Menstrual product and reproductive health

Lack of access to menstrual products and proper education on reproductive health is a big problem all over Kenya, especially in slum areas like Soweto. Moja - Stitch for education, is based in Denmark and is working close with Soweto Youth Initiative in trying to keep girls in school by providing re-usable menstrual products and proper education on reproductive health.  When we donate reusable pads to the school girls, we always follow up with education in reproductive health for both girls and boys. The boys also have an equal need for knowledge on protection, equality and rape statistics. This also helps to protect the girls, as the majority of all new cases of AIDS / HIV are young girls.  Go to Moja - Stitch for education's website www.moja.dk to read more about this organization.

School sponsorship

Education is power, and power leads to sustainable development. We are working with Under Lea's Trust (ULT), an organization based in Germany, that helps children from Soweto slums in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya. We try to recruit the most vulnerable children, find sponsors for them, and send them to school. So far, we have enrolled 450 children in school and are now working to build our own primary school just outside Soweto.
